a whimsical and odd little pigeon who spends her time thinking about and teaching textile things

Julia Stacey spent her early years in Somerset, England playing in cow fields and her father’s workshop where he worked on period ship models and other works of art. This early exposure to decorative arts and craftsmanship gave her a keen sense of taste and appreciation for the arts, heritage, and culture sectors.

In 2003, Julia moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where her own creativity and craftsmanship took off when she started sewing clothes for her dolls and costumes for herself. This led her to attend the Ontario College of Art and Design University where she received a Bachelor’s in Industrial Design and a Graduate Certificate in Material Art and Design with a focus in Textiles.

Throughout her studies, Julia worked in the Toronto arts and culture sector doing everything from demonstrating laser cutting at the Ontario Science Centre to creating programming for the Textile Museum of Canada. These experiences confirmed a passion for museum work leading her to the Museum Management and Curatorship at Fleming College, Peterborough, Canada.
