Home and Away: Exhibit Tour Video
Videography, Video Editing, Narration
Upon conclusion of the Home and Away exhibition installation, we had a team discussion on how best to document our hard work. The previous year had created an online exhibit, so we assembled a team to upload our exhibit text, photos and online interactive content. We also decided to form a team to craft an exhibit tour video at my suggestion. Working with the Peterborough Museum and Archives (PMA), we created this short and sweet tour, highlighting some of our favourite artifacts and archival images.
I assisted videographer Mikayla Barney on filming day, holding lighting while she filmed narrator Holly Ben. We also brought other classmates in to narrate the description of the artifact they had cared for and created the mount for. Upon completion of filming, I took the video footage, archival images, audio and graphics; I made many drafts of the project, keeping in communication with my team and the PMA to ensure everything was on the right track. Once the video editing was completed, I uploaded it to Temi, a caption generation service. Team members Michelle Ransom and Elizabeth Mooy edited the captions for spelling, grammar, and clarity. The video and caption files were then shared with the PMA, who uploaded them to their YouTube channel for viewers to enjoy.
The result is a seven-and-a-half-minute exhibit tour video that highlights the skills of our video team. The beautiful composition of the shots, thanks to Mikayla Barney’s artful eye, Holly Ben’s articulate narration and the clear captions courtesy of Michelle Ransom and Elizabeth Mooy. And of course, my video editing work, which this project gave me a fantastic chance to practice this skill I am interested in mastering.
